I find Scherchen interesting and antagonizing, but nothing in his whole output as enlightening and convincing as his Berlioz Harold and Requiem recordings. The way he deals with the Mahlerian influx of real-world light music in Harold has made this recording a reference for me, a quantum leap into a class of its own.
