Acknowledging this more consequentially than others Karajan´s performance is mastering the piece as a whole like hardly any other, including his own earlier one. Just listen how it sustains the thrill up to and all through the two final movements, where others run out of breath and start repeating..Superlative sound, too.

Die deutsche Übersetzung ist nicht halb so schön wie da Pontes Italienisch, aber Schönheit steht bei einer Komödie nicht an erster Stelle. Wer den Figaro eigentlich immer nur Italienisch gehört hat, wird, selbst wenn er das Italienische leidlich versteht, einen völlig anderen und sehr erhellenden Eindruck von Mozarts Komödie bekommen.
